Drinking Lemon water - Healthy Tips

Submitted by a reader

Many of us have heard of the health benefits associated with drinking lemon water in the morning, instead of the traditional cup of coffee or tea. It helps to cleanse the body by detoxifying the liver, therefore aiding in fat metabolism. You can drink it in cold water OR a cup of hot water. An extra tip: add a pinch of cayenne pepper to boost your metabolism even more!

One of our readers sent in a helpful tip on how she's done this:

"A couple years ago my doctor suggested the I should start drinking my water with a slice of lemon in it. He said that the lemon helps the water flush and cleanse the body. He also said not to use the store bought, bottled juice. Fresh lemons are the best.

Since then I have discovered a great way to preserve lemon so I can have it in my drinking water whenever I want it. I buy my lemons when I can get them for about 4/$1.00. I buy about $2 or $3.00 worth and just put them through my electric juicer and freeze the juice in minature ice cube trays. When they are completly frozen I put them into a zip-lock bag to keep them from getting freezer-burnt.

When I feel like having a glass of lemon water, I place one lemon cube from the freezer in my glass and pour my water over it (which starts the cube thawing). Then I put my ice in for ice-cold lemon water. It's great because I can save money by buying in larger quanities. It's also easier to pull out a lemon cube than it is to pull out a lemon, cut it, and sqeeze it."
