Lemons Tips and Hints - Using Lemons Around the House

Lemons smell great, work fantastically well to de-grease and of course they taste wonderful in all sorts of different recipes. Here are some helpful tips on using LEMONS (and oranges and other citrus fruits). For more fun tips on using lemons, visit our Lemon Water for Good Health Page and Lemon Air Freshener Recipe Page. Enjoy, lemon lovers!

Preserving Lemon Peels & Fresh Lemon Juice

=> Freshly grated lemon peel is used in all sorts of recipes - from baking to main dishes. But, fresh lemons last only so long. Try this to keep your lemon peel fresh: wash the fresh lemons very well and then use a grater or even a vegetable peeler to take off the outer yellow skin of the lemon only. (Not the white stuff underneath -- it has a bitter taste.) Store in plastic storage bags in the freezer, and take out and use whenever a recipe calls for lemon peel.

=> Fresh lemon juice is SO much better than bottled stuff! So, when lemons are in season and are on sale, juice the fresh lemons AFTER you've removed the peel (mentioned above) and store in ice cube trays. Once the lemon juice has frozen, store in plastic storage bags in the freezer. When you need fresh lemon juice, just pop out a lemon juice cube!

Lemon and Baking Soda Cleaner

If you want to give the faucets or sink a really good scrub (and deodorize them at the same time, try this:

Cut a fresh lemon in half and dip into some baking soda. Use this as the cleaning tool to scrub the sink. It smells great and it will leave any stainless steel sparkling clean. You can then throw the used up lemon down the food disposal and give it a whirl - the lemon and baking soda will help clean and deodorize it too!

Lemon Odor Neutralizer

Leaving a cut lemon out will naturally help neutralize stinky odors! And of course the lemon smells great too...It will help get rid of smokey smells or pet odors - naturally and without chemicals!
